Our art and design is inspired by nature and we are working to preserve it by developing a well designed line of durable green products out of organic, sustainable or recycled materials made using environmentally friendly methods. We hope our efforts contribute to a cleaner, greener earth.
Why use organic cotton?
Worldwide, approximately 25% of all insecticides and pesticides are used to grow conventional cotton. About one third of a pound of chemicals are used to produce one pound of cotton or enough for a single t-shirt. This practice heavily pollutes our environment with carcinogens.
Organic cotton is grown with natural fertilizers and is free from toxic chemicals. Organic farming methods employ ecological and sustainable techniques which support biodiversity and healthy ecosystems. Organic farmers do not pollute our waters, air or soil. Using organic cotton minimizes harm to people and the planet.
Why use ecofiber (recycled plastics [PET])?
Soft and fluffy hypoallergenic ecofiber is made from recycled plastic bottles rescued from landfills. Recycling and reusing plastic bottles prolongs landfill life, trims toxic emissions from incinerators, lessons our dependence on oil and reduces air, water and soil contamination.
Why print with water-based inks?
Traditional screen printing uses solvent-based plastisol (PVC). PVC stands for polyvinyl chloride, a ubiquitous plastic found in countless products. The manufacture and disposal of PVC is the biggest source of toxic dioxins in the environment. Plus, the polluting solvents and pigments containing heavy metals used in conjunction with plastisol inks are poisonous as well.
Water-based inks are a better alternative because they contain no or few VOCs, no PVC and fewer chemicals/solvents are used in cleanup.
Why is our manufacturing sustainable?
We work closely with select American suppliers and vendors who take a sustainable approach to manufacturing, treat workers fairly and minimize the use of harmful chemicals. Buying locally helps to strengthen the nation's economic base and reduces environmental impact by cutting back on transportation. Wabisabi Green EcoArt products are designed, printed and fabricated in the USA.
